Founded in 1995, the band plays a Heavy, Doom, Death Metal, Stoner Rock influenced by the Peaceville Records scene at the very beginning. With the change in style, came also the name change. – The other name was Our Haunted Kingdom (1994-1995); 1995-present as ‘Orange Goblin’.
They “wanted to have a colour in the band [name], because all [their] heroes had colours in their names, like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath“. And the Goblin, “came about because [they] were seriously into (JRR Tolkien’s) The Lord of the Rings”.
- Pete O’Malley left the band in 2004 to pursue a career in art.
After they released the last album ‘The Wolf Bites Back’ (2018) and the Live Album, ‘Rough & Ready, Live & Loud‘ (2020), they released the single ‘(Not) Rocket Science’, listen at:

“(Not) Rocket Science” is a matter of fact observation on the human tendency to over-complicate life … Frontman and lyricist Ben Ward says “It’s basically saying that life can be pretty simple and straightforward if you just stop wasting your time and make each day count. Be prepared to work hard, don’t expect any hand outs and basically enjoy yourself along the way. When Chris came up with the music he said it needed something that could be delivered in a Bon Scott / Lemmy style and I think it came out really well”.
- The lyrical themes are Drugs, Space travel, Relationships.
Orange Goblin are: Ben Ward – vocals, Joe Hoare – guitar, Chris Turner – drums , Harry Armstrong – bass.
